Visit a Harbour island

Many Sydney Harbour islands, including Fort Denison and Shark, Clark, Rodd, Cockatoo and Goat islands, have cultural and historical significance. Some of the sites resonate with Aboriginal history, while others reflect a European past with convict-built structures and old forts. Sydney Ferries operate daily services to many of the islands and Matilda Cruises operates a Fort Denison ferry service, where visitors can take a tour of the historic fort. Cockatoo Island offers guided and audio tours of the former shipyards and convict prison and visitors can stay overnight by the harbourside in the island camp site or cottages. Shark Island is a great spot for picnics, see passing yachts sailing on the harbour and watch seaplanes take off and land.

Catch the Manly Ferry

A visit to Manly by ferry is a quintessential Sydney experience. The half-hour journey from Circular Quay takes in many of Sydney Harbour’s most beautiful sights. Nestled between a tranquil harbour beach on one side and a surf beach on the other, Manly combines a laid-back attitude with a sophisticated dining and stylish boutiques. The palm-tree lined Corso leads onto the beachside, where visitors walk, roller-blade or cycle along the ocean front, or enjoy a swim or surf in the ocean.

Walk the Sydney coastline
