We stopped to hit up the happening town centre of Kaikoura and find out what there is to do for those who don't have a million dollar travel budget! We might even catch a Crayfish the old school way, with a pair of pantyhose.

If you watched the last episode, you'll see the minor issues we had in catching our own crayfish. So in a final attempt to fulfill DJ's crayfish craving, I tried talking to some of the locals to see if they had any ideas.
Meanwhile DJ tried some of his money making schemes around Kaikoura to see if he could earn a bit of money to put toward one.

On the way to Nelson we stopped off at the small settlement called canvastown. They have an awesome river that is beautifully clear and very deep in some parts. We also got chatting with one of the locals. Check out what we got up to! Boom!

We thought Canvastown was so cool we stayed a bit longer to try our luck in the gold-rich, "wakamarina" river. Check out the treasure we found! Thanks to Ruth for having us at her house and showing us a great part of New Zealand we wouludn't otherwise have known about! I hope the Gold covers the food we ate!

Eels eels eels!! Feed huge tame eels bits of pork off an icecream stick at the Jesters Cafe'. Only about 20 or so minutes north of Nelson its a great place to take the family, have a bite to eat and check out the slimy creatures! We loved it and next time we come back we might stay in the Giant shoe out the back!! yes a Giant Shoe.. that's also a house!

To the north of Nelson lies the "Golden Bay" area. One of our most favourite places to camp! Check out the footage and you'll see why. Paradise-like sand and blue-as water, its crankin and it totally goes off over summer! Kaiteriteri is a beach just 10 minutes north of Motueka and has been a childhood camping destination for the both of us! Yea boi!

So you made it to Kaiteriteri, but can't get a spot on the beach - Travel just 10 minutes up the windy road, take a right hand turn somewhere and then walk another 10 minutes down a bush track and you'll pop out at a more secluded private beach. It's astonishingly beautiful, the sunsets are always mega awesome and have your own split-apple-rock to gawk at. Great place to take your girlfriend/wife, we didn't take ours cause we don't have any.

EP11 - DJ & Dan's Roadtrip - The Mussel Inn

So we decided to head north even more and drove over the awesome Takaka hill. (On top of this hill is where some Lord of the Rings scenes were filmed I'm pretty sure). After you've made it down the otherside of the windy road, you come into the small town of Takaka, seeing as it was a bit of a drive we thought we deserved something fancy to eat. So we ordered some delicious mussels from the local bar/restaurant - "The Mussel Inn".. You've gotta check it out if you're up that way.
