Winnipeg is the capital and largest city of Manitoba and serves as the perfect base to explore the region by RV. It lies near to the Canadian Shield and hundreds of beautiful lakes such as Lake Winnipeg and Lake Manitoba. The city is connected to the US via Provincial Trunk Highway which runs to the city of Emerson, and is the busiest Canada/US border crossing between Vancouver and the Great Lakes. Winnipeg has established a new wayfinding program, with new signage that will make it easier for RVers to find services and attractions.
Winnipeg is a multi-cultural city and has a thriving arts, festival and culture scene, for example the Royal Winnipeg Ballet, Le Cercle Molière, Festival du Voyageur and Folklorama. The Winnipeg Art Gallery contains the world's largest public collection of contemporary Inuit art.
Winnipeg has claimed the Guinness World Record for "World's Longest Skating Rink", along the Red and Assiniboine Rivers.
Hint: Use the four-lane Perimeter Highway if you want to bypass the city along the Trans-Canada Highway.
