The Best Beaches in Chile
Chile’s long coastline certainly has no shortage of beaches for every kind of visitor. Whether it be the rugged natural kind, or the popular town beaches, the country has something for everyone. If you have a campervan hire or motorhome rental and want to check out Chile’s best beaches here’s a list from north to as far south as you’d want to go to dip your toe in the water, unless of course you’re are a Magellan Penguin!
In the far north close to the Atacama is Flamenco Beach. The weather is always good here and the white sands and calm seas make it an ideal spot for families and those who enjoy swimming and water sports
Bahia Inglesa, also known as the British Port, has incredible turquoise waters, and modern amenities. The beach is popular for its several miles of white sands, small waves, and warm water. The beach and its neighbours of El Chuncho, La Piscina, and White Beach, are good places to stay if you are visiting the Pan de Azucar National Park famous for its Humboldt Penguins and lovely walking trails.
Arica is the most northerly city in Chile, but it also has a very good beach. This is a great place for not only swimming and water sports such as scuba diving, but for non-water based activities as well. Arica is where you can also visit the Lauca National Park on the border with Bolivia to discover some prehistoric finds.
Probably the most popular beach in Chile is at Viña del Mar. This is another city, but it’s famous for its gardens and beautiful vegetation as well as its eight miles of beach. As you can imagine there are plenty of places to stay along the coast and a wide range of restaurants and bars when you’ve had enough of the sand and ocean.
Punta Choros is a town that head for if you like beaches and marine life. This area is not only popular with humans, but dolphins and penguins too. The area has some wonderful bays and islands, so there’s plenty of opportunity to take a quiet boat trip.
Punta de Lobos is a perfect beach to swim and take part in water sports such as surfing and fishing, the area is overlooked by some high cliffs, with some great photo opportunities form the top.
