Motorhoming in Milan

Milan is Italy’s most dynamic city, the centre of all things financial and fashionable.  Milan’s not known for its sunshine, but what it lacks in the weather department it makes up for in shopping experiences, art and some wonderful architecture.

Services for Motorhome Rental vehicles.
Visitors to this area won’t find very many options; however there are a couple of fully serviced campsites on the outskirts of Milan just a few miles from the city centre.  The sites are open all year and can accommodate campervan hire vehicles.  The area does not have any of the Aree di Sosta, but there are a large number of service areas on the autostrada around the city which offer comfortable rest areas for the night.

Top things to see and do.
The highlight of any trip to Milan is a visit to the Duomo in the centre of the city.  The Duomo is the world’s largest Gothic cathedral, built of marble it took over 500 years to build (Italian builders haven’t changed!).  Visitors who climb to the roof with its 135 pinnacles and 244 statues will be rewarded with views right out to the Alps.

Visit Santa Maria delle Grazie church to see Da Vinci’s Last Supper.
Plan your trip here well in advance and book tickets in advance as well, numbers are limited so book online or take a walking city tour which has it included.

One for the girls.  Window or otherwise, you must do some shopping in Milan, fashion capital of the world.  Visit the Quadrilatero d’Oro and mingle with the beautifully rich people with their Versace or Dolce & Gabbana bags, then go out of town for the designer outlets.

One for the boys.  Go and watch a football game.  Milan is home to both AC and Inter Milan. The San Siro stadium is the largest in Italy and during the season you should be able to see at least one of the teams playing at home.

Just for fun…Spin on the Bull
On the floor in the centre of the beautiful Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II shopping centre you will find a prancing bull. Legend has it that if you spin on the bull; which represents Turin, it gives you good luck. All you need to do is put your heel in the very well used hole (you’ll see where) and do the twist, if you’re not sure how just watch local Milanese; even the cool people do it.

Milan is probably not the first city that many people choose when planning a motorhome rental or a campervan hire but if you are touring in the north of Italy it’s a great place to spend a day or two.
