Italy’s capital and the countries largest city, Rome is brimming with over two thousand years of history.  The centre of the Catholic religion, the home to some of the most famous works of art and sculptures and probably one of the most historic cities in the world, this is a place where you could spend weeks and still not scratch the surface.

Services for Motorhome Rental vehicles.
As you can imagine the capital has some very good facilities for visitors with campervan hire or motorhome rental vehicles.  There are 8 Aree di Sosta payable by the hour or by the day with all the necessary facilities for a comfortable stop and nearby transport links, 9 campsites and two specific parking areas with transport available to the city.   For further information visit: http://www.turismoitinerante.it/php/sosta/italia/soroma.shtml (Italian Version)

Top things to see and do

The Vatican.  Whether you are religious or not the Vatican and its museums have to be somewhere to come. Wednesday mornings are one of the best times.  If you want to see the Pope this is where he gives his services and if you want to avoid the crowds in the Sistine chapel, everyone else is outside listening to the Pope.

Coliseum and the Roman Forum.  Even if you hate history, you will not fail to be impressed with this area.  The scale of everything is huge and it’s not difficult to imagine what the area would have been like in Roman times.

One for the girls. Visit Campo dei Fiori or Camp of the flowers.
This area is ideal for visitors visiting the city with a motorhome rental.  The name is rather misleading these days, but it’s where tourists can rub shoulders with the locals at a traditional outdoor market to buy the food for their trip.  Not far from the Piazza Navona you will need to be here early as these markets only operate before lunchtime.

One for the boys. Visit the creepy Cappuchin Crypt. If you only visit one religious building choose this one, it’s so small it will only be a quick visit, but this place is very unusual because it’s decorated with the bones of more than 4,000 Cappuchin monks.

Just for fun…have your photo taken with a Gladiator.  Found around the coliseum with their plastic shields ‘When in Rome do as the Romans do’ even the Italians get their pictures taken with these Gladiators, its something to pin on your notice board when you get home.

Rome is a wonderful city to visit and with so many choices for visitors with a motorhome rental or campervan hire it couldn’t be much easier.  Areas on the outskirts of the city are ideally positioned for transport links into the city as no one in their right mind would want to drive around here.
