Durban may be South Africa’s third largest city, but the atmosphere here is relaxed and chilled out.  The residents of Durban are known for their friendliness and having a good time; and no wonder with the warm ocean, and 320 day of sunshine a year.  This is the place to visit if you want a few days of fun and relaxation.

Services for Motorhome Rental vehicles.
As you would expect for an area by the beach, there are loads of places for visitors with a motorhome rental or campervan hire to spend a night or two.  Sites range from the basic to the ‘very nice’ kind, and if you don’t want to stay by the beach itself, there are many more places in the towns and villages that surround Durban.
Top things to see and do
Head for Durban’s ‘Golden Mile’, this is where you will find the best beaches in South Africa.  The beaches here have protective shark nets; very important for safe bathing, plenty of public facilities and lifeguards on duty most of the day.  North and South beach are ideal for boogie boarding, surfing and swimming, whilst Addington Beach, close to the harbour entrance, is better for families as the beach is protected from the stronger waves, it’s also a great place to learn to surf.  If you’re looking for big waves head for Anstey's Beach south of the city, it’s ideal for surfing.

One for the girls.  Visit the Victoria Street Market, something unique in South Africa.  It’s where you will find barrels of Indian spices and incense and over 170 stalls selling African and Oriental products, including some beautiful jewellery.  There are some real bargains to be had here.

One for the boys.  Head out into the ocean for a spot of Deep Sea Fishing.  There are a number of operators that run out of Durban’s harbour and offer everything from a few hours to a whole day, with lunch and drinks included.  Of course all the gear you’ll need will be supplied, so there’s no need to bring your own.

Just for fun… Visit the uShaka Marine World Park at the end of the promenade.  This is not only home to shops and restaurants, there are opportunities to snorkel with the marine life; and that includes sharks, there’s also the water slides of ‘Wet and Wild’, one of which is over 100 feet tall, there are also smaller slides and plenty of pools and other water activities to get involved in.

Durban is a really fun and relaxed place to visit on a motorhome rental or campervan hire holiday in South Africa.  It’s a different atmosphere to the game parks and other cities, and is a good place to unwind before you hit the road again.
