Malaga Motorhome Holiday
Although Malaga is a city in its own right, the best option for visitors with motorhome rental or campervan hire is to ‘head for the hills’. Unfortunately much of the Costa del Sol along the coast is covered with concrete; with a few exceptions, but inland you will find some beautiful pueblos blancos and the real Spain.
Services for Motorhome Rental vehicles
There are a few Areas outside Malaga, Nerja and Granada which offer facilities for motorhome rental and campervan hire vehicles. Because this area is popular with holiday makers there are also some very good campsites which have a lot more facilities and are ideal for public transport.
Top things to see and do
Granada. Even if you only come to Granada for one thing, it has to be a visit to the Alhambra Palace. The palace is up there with the Taj Mahal; only on a smaller scale, and combines a wonderful complex of formal gardens, water features and a terrific palace built in a Moorish style with views towards the sea. Get here early to avoid the queues; there will always be tour buses so beat them to it. Once inside you can easily spend the day here, there’s no need to rush, stay until the sun sets.
Cueva de Nerja or the Caves of Nerja. Just outside the town of Nerja are its famous caves, one of Spain’s top tourist attactions. The caves stretch for over 2 miles and are divided into two parts, first part is not open to the public, however the second part is and features show galleries of huge stalactites and stalagmites dating back centuries. Even if you’ve visited other caves these really are worth coming to see.
One for the girls. Puerto Banus. This was where the rich and famous used to moor their yachts on the Costa Del Sol. This is not so much the case these days but there are still the upmarket shops and some handsome, and not so handsome, men in their extremely flash cars driving around!
One for the boys. Get on your bike. There are some great trails into the mountains and quite a few companies who will either hire you a bike for a few days or arrange a guided tour of some of the best bits.
Just for fun… Visit Sphere Mania in Marbella. Encapsulate yourself in a clear 4 metre in diameter inflatable sphere and roll down a hill at over 40 KPH, you’ve got to be crazy.
The Costa del Sol has always been a popular for motorhome rental and campervan hire, the area has some good wide roads to get you from A to B and some great places to explore within a relatively small area. Take a week or two and discover them for yourself.
