10 Fantastic Places to Visit on Your Campervan Holiday
Sweden and its islands are filled with fantastic places to visit for holiday makers with a motorhome rental or campervan hire vehicle. Here is a list of just 10 places to start with, and hopefully there will be something here for everyone.
We’ve missed out some of the more obvious places such as Stockholm and Gothenburg as we can only sneak in ten (but if you’re holidaying in Sweden it probably goes without saying that you will visit them anyway).
Ales Stennar, is the Stonehenge equivalent of Sweden, with one big difference, it’s free to visit! Now that doesn’t happen very often. This is where the Vikings left their own henge’s, right on the side of some beautiful cliffs overlooking the Baltic Sea
If you like vaiety head for Halmstad. It has eveything from jungles tracks, a river, beautiful beaches, and city life. There’s everything here, and its not as busy as some of the more well known cities.
Fotovikin Museum is a living museum, not a dusty place full of not a lot. This is another Viking settlement overlooking Orosund, and it has been reconstructed from records to make sure every detail is perfect.
Malmö may be a large city but it has some great shopping as well as historic buildings and great beaches, you can’t ask for more than that! Oh, and it’s got great nightlife too.
The centre of Lund is a wonderful historic site to visit, but leave your motorhome rental or campervan hire on the outskirts because you won’t be able to park. The centre dates back to the 10th century, with cobbled streets and a beautiful cathedral.
Right on the south tip, Trelleborg has a Viking settlement as well as some wonderfully preserved buildings. Its maritime past makes this place just a bit different from some of the inland towns and cities.
Helsingborg is home to the grand Sofia Slott castle with views over the park and bay towards Denmark. Take a ferry from here to one of the nearby islands for a different view.
Swedish Lapland is where you can come for a wilderness experience. The northern lights, midnight sun, lakes, and lots of reindeer.
40Km south of Gothenburg is Tjolöholm Slott, a beautifully restored Tudor castle. It’s the only one of its kind in the country, well worth a visit.
Ystad is where you will find some of the finest beaches in the country. It’s got beautiful sand and the waters of the Baltic Sea are clean and …..fresh!
Whether you choose a motorhome rental or campervan hire holiday in Sweden you will have some great adventures along the way and lots to remember when you get back home.
