Malmo is another of Sweden’s pristine cities and is a great place to visit if you love food as there are more restaurant per head of population here than anywhere else in Sweden.  Malmo is an excellent place to base a motorhome rental or campervan hire holiday, in less than 20 minutes you can be on the beach, in the beautiful beech forests, or even in a totally different country…Denmark.

Most campsites are outside the city on the beaches, there’s even one just a five minute walk from the bridge to Copenhagen, so if you enjoy engineering this would be the perfect place to stay.  There are several campsites with good facilities around Aitkin, which are open all year, so you shouldn’t have difficulty trying to find a spot to stay for a night or two.

Top things to see and do

HSB Turning Torso.  This isn’t an attraction as such, as visitors are not allowed inside, but at 190 meters high and being designed on a plan of nine cubes with five floors each, it’s become one of the biggest attractions of the city.  The whole structure is used as offices and housing and it twists 90 degrees on its way up, quite strange, but a feat of engineering all the same!  In the building next door is an experience centre which gives information on the architect and the buildings construction.

Lilla Torg.  Just off the main pedestrian street is the extremely charming square of Lilla Torg.  Some of the buildings date back to 1590 and are among the oldest in the city.  The square combines old world charm restaurants, bars, and shops, so its worth just sitting for a while and taking in the atmosphere

Copacabana.  If you want to relax for a while visit Copacabana a 4Km white sandy beach, a 15 minute walk from the city centre.  Come here on a summers evening when there are live bands playing South American music right on the beach.

Visit Denmark for the day.  Take the train, or drive over the bridge between Malmo and Copenhagen which takes just 35 minutes.  There are some very good views, but don’t get distracted if you’re driving your motorhome rental or campervan hire vehicle, you don’t want to go over the edge!

Malmo makes a good city to use as a base for exploring the Öresund Region.  It has some great campsites, interesting sights, a very nice beach, and some great restaurants.  What more could you ask for on a motorhome rental or campervan hire holiday in Sweden.
