10 Fantastic Places to Visit on Your Campervan Holiday
Thailand’s top ten places to visit are pretty debateable, after all there are so many very different things to see and do here, and it depends on what kind of experience you’re after. Here is a mixture of culture, beach, and city attractions which are ideal for first time visitors to Thailand on a motorhome rental or campervan hire holiday.
Bangkok is somewhere you either love or hate. It’s chaotic, noisy, full of traffic, but on the other hand it has the Grand Palace, Wat Po, and the floating and night markets. So, if you can overlook its bad points the good points are worth staying for!
Chaing Mai is much more calm than Bangkok, and many people prefer it to the capital because during the summer the temperature is more bearable and the atmosphere is more tranquil. It’s also the home to some very beautiful temples.
Mae Hong Son is the capital of the north west and because of its proximity to the border with Laos it has a very different atmosphere. The mountainous city has some very beautiful scenery as well as the beautiful women of the Karen tribe who have long necks adorned with necklaces.
The UNESCO World Heritage Site of Ayutthaya is the ancient ruins of a once very grand city. The city may be in ruins but the temples and other buildings are very elegant, it’s worth a visit.
Towns and Villages
Pai today is what Chaing Mai was many years ago, it’s very popular with artists and musicians and it’s also now the place to visit for one of the less touristy treks to visit the hill tribe people.
San Kamphaeng is the place to visit for relaxing hot springs which are set in some beautiful parkland. The springs have a high sulphur content and can get up too 100 degrees centigrade. This is a good place to overnight for visitors with a motorhome rental or campervan hire, as there are also some good camping sites in the area.
Islands and beaches
It might be difficult to get your motorhome rental or campervan hire vehicle across to these islands, but as a place to relax at the end of a touring holiday of Thailand, they are a great choice.
Here are two for the price of one, Koh Samui and Koh Phangan on the east of Thailand. Both have wonderful white sand backed by pal trees, clean warm water.
Railay is a small peninsula on the Krabi coastline surrounded by rugged limestone cliffs and secluded beaches. This area is popular with rock climbers from all over the world as well as the rich and famous.
Koh Phi Phi has one of the best viewpoints for a romantic sunset in the whole of the country, or if you prefer to take to the water it’s a good place to hire traditional long tailed boat.
The top diving spot in Thailand is Hin Daeng. There are incredibly colourful fish, and even a few sharks but they’re not the man-eating kind!
