Important Information About Your Rentals

On arrival, you will be required to sign a rental agreement with the operators of Tasmania Campers. Here is a summary of the terms and conditions:

Definitions
The following definitions apply for the Terms and Conditions for Tasmania Campers.

• The Supplier means the operator of Tasmania Campers.
• The Client is also referred to as the hirer (s) or renter (s).

SPECIAL PAYMENT TERMS:
Full balance of payment (including the deposit) will be collected at the time of confirmation if you have elected to process your booking in a currency different to AUD.

Payments
If the balance is not received 38 days prior, Tasmania Campers reserves the right to treat the booking as cancelled.

Cancellations
Once a booking has been confirmed the booking is considered live and is subject to the cancellation policy.
Deposit paid is non-refundable.

Bookings submitted after 7th May 2020:
22 - 30 days prior to pick up: 20% of total reservation cost
12 - 21 days prior to pick up: 40% of total reservation cost
3 - 11 days prior to pick up: 75% of total reservation cost
No show or 2 days prior to pick up 100% of total reservation cost.

For customers affected by travel restrictions/are infected with covid 19 and booking was submitted from 9th June 2020:
COVID-19: In the event that travel is affected because of a pandemic then the following will occur:

1. Any booking cancelled up to 72 hours prior to pickup will be subject to a cancellation fee of $100.00 which will partially cover our costs. The balance of the hire amount can be held for a future booking occurring within 18 months from opening of borders or refunded at any time. This will allow hirers the option to preserve the value of their money against adverse exchange rate fluctuations.
2. In order to qualify for this exception, the hirer will need to provide medical proof that the hirer is unable to travel because of infection or that they are not permitted to travel because of Border restrictions.

No refunds for cancellations made after the travel or travel date has commenced. There are no refunds for early returns or cancellations after pick up.

All Inclusive Hire Charges
All hire charges include Australian Goods and Services Tax (GST) and daily insurance and 2% Local State Tax. You have unlimited mileage. Freshly laundered linen(not included in Bush Camper), all cooking equipment, crockery and cutlery is supplied. There is a charge for a colour TV,barbeque, picnic set, snow chains, cell phone, child restraint and bike rack. The hirer and other authorised drivers must be 21 years of age or over and produce a valid full drivers licence. Special conditions apply to drivers aged 18 to 20 years. Australia recognises drivers licences issued by your own country, as well as International drivers licenses. If you are a member of an Automobile Association bring your membership card with you and gain additional privileges and information on travel throughout Tasmania.

Maintenance And Repairs
You are authorised to effect minor repairs up to $100.00. This will be refunded upon presentation of a GST invoice. If major repairs are needed, protect yourself by getting us to authorise it first. Problems encountered with the vehicle or equipment must be reported to Backpacker Sleepervans or Tasmania Campers as soon as practicable. This gives Backpacker Sleepervans or Tasmania Campers the opportunity to rectify the problem within the rental period. Failure to do so will compromise any claim that may eventuate after the hire is finished. In all cases the responsibility of Backpacker Sleepervans or Tasmania Campers is limited to refunding for the time that the vehicle was actually in repair. No alternative accommodation or food items will be paid for during down time. Malfunction of items such as but not limited to Radio/Cassette/CD players, Stove, Cooler box, Water pump, are not considered mechanical breakdowns and downtime will not be paid for these items. Retrospective claims will not be accepted.

Insurance

The vehicle is fully insured in case of accident damage or loss of contents (excluding personal belongings). The excess/deductible covers the cost of damage to third party property or to the rented vehicle, including single vehicle accident, windscreen and tyre damage overhead and underbody damage, towing and recovery costs, theft, fire, break in or vandalism. This also includes the cost of the daily rental rate for the period the vehicle is off fleet for accident repairs. The Liability applies in respect of each claim, not per rental. In addition to the Liability, and where our Bond Waiver has been purchased, an administration fee of $150 will be charged per claim. Otherwise, the fee is $450.00 per claim.

Bond

When you collect your vehicle we take an impression of your credit card as the bond for your excess/deductible. This is the insurance excess for any single accident which may occur during your holiday. The impression of your credit card covers your accident-damage bond liability plus any extra costs such as fuel fill-up, emptying of the toilet at the end of hire, or any traffic infringements, losses or breakages. A credit card imprint must be on all rental agreements and must be the credit card of the main hirer unless prior arrangements have been made. We do not deduct the bond from the credit card, but merely hold the authority to deduct it in the unfortunate event of an accident. Where a credit card is not available, a cash bond will be held by Tasmania Campers for 21 Days following hire.

Please Note: For customers who are using debit cards for the security deposit, due to the limitations within terms of use for debit cards these are treated as cash and the full excess will be debited unless the bond waiver is purchased and then a signed imprint will be taken.

Tasmania Campers (Trailfinder Campers and 4WD Bushcampers) - There is an excess of AU$3,800 included within our standard rates.  (AU$4,800 for drivers aged under 25 years)

Devil Campers/Sleepervans - There is an excess of AU$2,800 included within our standard rates.   (AU$3,800 for drivers aged under 25 years)

Optional Coverages

In addition to the insurance cover set out above, the hirer may chose Bond Waiver Insurance (BWI) options by so indicating on the Rental Document.  The amount of that excess and the daily rate payable in respect of BWI is dependent upon the age of the hirer and the type of vehicle hired.

Bond waiver/excess reduction Insurance

The bond can be reduced by purchasing one of the following Reduction Options:

Reduction Option 1:

Tasmania Campers - This option can be purchased by paying $28 ($33.00 per day for drivers under 25 years) per day reduces excess to $1,200.00 and only a credit card imprint is required.

Devil Campers/Sleepervans - This option can be purchased by paying $20 ($25.00 per day for drivers under 25 years) per day reduces excess to $850.00 and only a credit card imprint is required.

Reduction Option 2:

Tasmania Campers - This option can be purchased by paying $38 ($43.00 per day for drivers under 25 years) per day reduces excess to $0.00 and only a credit card imprint is required.

Devil Campers/Sleepervans - This option can be purchased by paying $29 ($34.00 per day for drivers under 25 years) per day reduces excess to $0.00 and only a credit card imprint is required.

Reduction Option 2 cover includes the following extras:

• Free hire of the following accessories which are GPS, Baby seat and/or child booster seat, Outside BBQ, Picnic Table and Chairs (one chair for each person travelling)
• Zero excess (Subject to exclusions below)
• One windscreen, multiple windscreen chips and two tyres will be covered for accidental damage
• Free airport pick up and drop off
• Damages admin fee

A Manual imprint of Credit Card will be collected at the time of entering into the Rental Contract.

Please note that Excess Reduction is completely optional and can be decided upon collection of your vehicle. This additional insurance only covers you for one incident where after your standard excess applies. You can apply to purchase this cover for the remaining days of your hire.

Exclusions To The Excess Reduction

Personal belongings: We recommend the hirer does not leave valuables in the vehicle and that they take out personal insurance.

With All Vehicles Full Cost of Liability Applies if:
Any water related damage, which includes but is not limited to:
a) Any vehicle submersion.
b) Creek or river crossing.
c) Driving through low plain flooded areas.
d) Beach driving.

The terms of the rental agreement are breached. The hirer will be responsible for the total cost of any damage.

• This will also include any damage caused by wilful misconduct (e.g. sitting or standing on the bonnet or roof of the vehicle) and driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs.
• The incorrect use of fuel (fuel being diesel or petrol). The hirer will be responsible for any associated cost.
• The cost to retrieve or recover a vehicle which has become bogged.
• The cost to replace keys, which have become lost, or retrieval of keys, which have been locked in a vehicle.
• Overhead and underbody damage to the vehicle (Reduction Option 1 only)
• Any costs associated with breakdown or accident on unsealed roads.
• Driving on restricted roads.
• Damage is caused to the vehicle by the use of snow chains
• Damage is caused due to fuel being placed in the water tank
• Damage to mechanical parts or the interior of the vehicle due to misuse or negligence.
• Damage overuse or overheating of the brakes and riding the clutch

If the terms of the Rental Agreement are breached the hirer will be responsible for the total cost of any damage.

Credit Cards
We only accept Visa or MasterCard. These cards will incur an additional 2% surcharge on any transaction.

Hire Period
Minimum is 5 days. Collect from 8 am onwards on your first day of hire and return no later than 5 pm on the last day. Late pickups are available on request. An after hours fee will apply. Days of hire are calculated on the number of actual calendar days you have the Tasmania Camper. Vehicles are restricted to Tasmania. One way hires of duration less than 10 days may incur a one way charge.

Accidents And Breakdowns
The liability of Backpacker Sleepervans or Tasmania Campers extends to either replacing your vehicle with a similar one, or refunding your hire charge for any days you lose the total use of the vehicle.

Pets Or Livestock Are Not Permitted In Any Tasmania Campers.

What You Need To Know - Your Conditions Of Hire. Read this carefully.

Prices may be subject to change due to factors beyond the control of Tasmania Campers. Any changes in price affecting a client between the time of booking and payment received will be advised immediately. The company takes no responsibility for any detention, delay, loss, damage or injury that a hirer might experience no matter how it is caused or by whom. The companys rental agreement is the sole contract for hiring the vehicle, between the company and the hirer and passenger(s). No refunds are payable on accommodation, Backpacker Sleepervans or Tasmania Campers not being available, where a hirer or passenger amends, cancels or seeks to vary agreements after departure. These conditions cannot be varied or altered or waived by any employee, agent or representative of the company or by anyone providing services or facilities. The company cannot be bound by any representative or statement unless it is confirmed in writing by the companys directors or management. The company reserves the right to provide a comparably high standard vehicle where a booked vehicle becomes unavailable through servicing or reasons beyond their control. Disclaimer: all illustrations and text are representations only and slight variations may occur from time to time. Driving your Campervan in Tasmania. The speed limit on the open road is 110 kph (60 mph). 100 kph is the recommended limit for your Campervan. In built-up areas the limit is 50 kph (30 mph).

Driving Fines
If you are fined or penalised for breaching any traffic laws, you are liable for the fine and/or associated administration costs.

Travel insurance
We strongly recommend that clients ensure they take out the highest level of travel insurance. In many cases this will cover any losses incurred if you are forced to cancel your booking.

Fuel
All vehicles are supplied with a full tank of fuel at the start of hire, and must be returned with a full tank at the end of your hire. Any costs or damage arising from incorrect or contaminated fuel being added to the fuel tank shall be at the hirers expense.

Included in every campervan is a Travel Information Pack - this includes details on camping grounds, maps, Tasmania traffic rules, sightseeing brochures and general information.

Tasmania Campers runs a fleet of vehicles which is updated regularly and serviced to the highest standards.

Standard comprehensive cover is included in the daily rental rate; a standard excess of $5000.00 applies. Hirers may exercise the option for reducing their liability.

Insurance Exclusions:
All insurance will be void if any of the following “Exclusions” are breached:
• Damage caused where the terms of Rental Contract have been breached.
• Damage caused by negligence.
• Damage caused to the Vehicle in any way by part or total water submersion or salt water.
• Damage caused due to a single vehicle roll over.
• Damage caused to the Vehicle by the renter’s wilful conduct.
• Damage caused to the Vehicle when using the Vehicle in contravention of any legislation or regulation controlling vehicular traffic.
• Damage or loss caused to any personal belongings.
• Damage caused due to use of incorrect or contaminated fuel.
• Damage to the awning, overhead or underbody of the Vehicle.

Road Restrictions:
The vehicles can be driven on recognised unsealed roads but you will need permission from the depot manager to take the vehicles around Tasmania. This permission is weather dependant on the current weather for the area and will only be given at the time the hire starts. Please consult a good map provider for road names and details like the “Hema Map” company.


It is recommended that hirers take out travel insurance which specifically covers cancellation fees; most claims arise from either personnel or close-family illness before departure resulting in cancellation charges. Please consult your own car or home insurance company (ensuring the policy covers you for “recreational use off road 4wd hire” and not just normal car hire)

FAQs
Can we freedom camp?
Yes, so long as there are no clear signs saying otherwise, then it should be okay, however we do suggest you use commonsense and courtesy. Please remember to take any rubbish for proper disposal later.

Can I use my own Drivers License?
Yes, you can use your standard driver license or International driver’s license to drive any of our campervans or Motorhomes. The license you chose to use must be in English.

What hire days do I pay for?
You pay for the day your hire commences and every day following this, including the day you return your vehicle, regardless of the time of day.

What happens if my vehicle breaks down or needs minor repairs?
All Tasmania Campers come with Nationwide NRMA roadside service. We also supply a list of nationwide service centres and authorise you to spend up to AU$100.00 in emergency repairs so that you can deal with minor matters speedily or when convenient to you.

How do I get to Tasmania?
Via air or sea! Bass Strait is the 'sea-road' and the route is operated by two incredibly fast ships that offer an overnight service in both directions between Melbourne and Devonport seven days a week, year round, with additional services in peak periods.

If you prefer to travel by air then Qantaslink, Virgin, Jetstar and Regional Express operate frequent services to Tasmania. There are direct flights from Sydney and Melbourne to L Hobart, from Brisbane to Hobart, from Adelaide to Hobart, and from Melbourne Burnie and King Island.

Where is your depot?
Our depot is located on Kennedy Drive, just off the Tasman Highway to the Airport on the old Cambridge Road (only a few minutes from the airport terminal).

When is the best time to visit Tasmania?
Tasmania enjoys four distinctly different seasons so there is a climate to suit your preferences! Generally it is warmer on the coast and cooler inland. During summer (December - February) the average maximum temperature is 21 degrees Celsius (70F) and during winter (June - August) the average maximum temperature is 12 degrees Celsius. Spring and Autumn is also very pleasant with temperatures normally in the mid-teens.

It isn't always to see the secretive Tasmanian Devil, however specialist wildlife observation tours are available on the island.

How much is petrol in Tasmania?
Petrol stations are located throughout Tasmania and open 7 days a week. You should expect to pay a few cents more per litre compared to other Australian states.

What are the main centres in Tasmania?
Hobart is the capital city, however other main centres include Launceston, Burnie and Devonport.

What is the driving speed limit around Tasmania?
In built-up (residential) areas the speed limit is 50 km/h unless otherwise indicated. The maximum speed on the open roads is normally 100km/h. Watch out - there is speed camera's operating throughout Tasmania.

Do I have to wear a seat belt?

Information disclaimer

The rates on this website are often heavily discounted. This is due to our negotiated rates and bulk buying power. On very rare occasions, a rate may be displayed incorrectly due to our, or a Third Party Provider’s error. In such a case, if you book with us at a quoted rate that is incorrect, we will notify you of any price change and give you the option to proceed or cancel. Liability

The rental agreement and any other documentation provided to you by the Third Party Provider is between you and the Third Party Provider and we will not be liable to you or to any third party in any way in relation to that agreement or your vehicle or rental service where your booking has been properly processed by us. We are not responsible or liable to you for (i) the acts or omissions of the Third Party Provider in respect of your booking or in the course of delivering the rental service to you; or (ii) any disputes in respect of your booking with that Third Party Provider or that service, except in each case to the extent that responsibility for those matters may be imposed on us by applicable law. While we will make reasonable efforts to ensure we are representing only reputable Third Party Providers, we make no warranty about the fitness suitability of any Third Party Provider product or service and will not accept responsibility for the quality fitness of any vehicle. If you encounter issues with the vehicle whilst on hire, you MUST report these issues directly to the relevant Third Party Provider at the earliest possible time. This will allow the Third Party Provider to remedy any issues and minimise any inconvenience to you. If you fail to report any vehicle issues during your rental, it is likely that compensation will not be offered. We welcome feedback from our customers on their experience with our Third Party Providers. We may, at our discretion, provide you with reasonable assistance in resolving any dispute you may have with a Third Party Provider. Where we are liable to you terms and conditions, our total liability to you will be limited to (at our option) resupply of the booking service provided to you or the dollar amount of the deposit we received from you in relation to your booking. Again, we strongly recommend that you take out travel insurance. Your use of this website is governed by the laws of New Zealand and the jurisdiction of the New Zealand courts.

Booking information

To make a booking you must complete our booking form which is easy to follow and secured with the latest encryption technology. Once we receive your form, we will availability confirm your booking email you a confirmation voucher and invoice. The deposit required to secure your vehicle (as shown on the secure booking page) will only be processed on your credit card when your booking is confirmed. Please note that a 2% credit card or debit card surcharge will be added when your payment is processed. A booking is confirmed when you have been emailed a confirmation voucher and at this stage the deposit is processed on your card and becomes non-refundable and any cancellation fees stated in the Third Party Providers terms apply. Upon receipt of your confirmation, please check your details carefully and notify us immediately if there are any incorrect details, as it may not be possible to make changes at a later date. If you are booking via phone, please make sure you have read the terms and conditions of the vehicle you wish to rent first. Our reservations consultant will ask you if you have read the terms and agree to them before proceeding. The onus is always on the renter to ensure they make themselves fully aware of the terms displayed on our website.

Information disclosure

In booking on this website you acknowledge that we disclose your information to your selected Third Party Provider in order for them to provide the requested rental services to you.

Amendments

Please note that some Third Party Providers treat an amendment as a new booking and apply the rate current at the time the amendment is made to recalculate the entire booking amount (not just the days changed). If the rental period is increased, an additional deposit may be required. If the rental period is shortened which results in a reduction of the rental charges, the deposit amount will remain unchanged, and the difference between the original and revised deposit is forfeited (it cannot be used towards remaining rental charges). To request a change to a confirmed booking, please use the alterations request link on your confirmation. Any alterations are subject to availability and the approval of the Third Party Provider. In addition to the alteration policy of the Third Party Provider stated in their terms, the following charges will apply in respect of our booking service relating to that amendment: Motorhome rental alterations (all charges stated in local currency): 25.00 The alteration fee will not be charged if your alteration request is not possible.

Vehicle Capacity and fitness to drive

Under no circumstances are you permitted to carry more passengers than the vehicle you rent is legally registered to carry, and if you do your insurance may be invalidated. The number of seatbelts (and passengers) is indicated next to each vehicle on this website. Luggage capacity where shown is an indication only and we will not be responsible should you be unable to fit your entire luggage into a vehicle. It is your responsibility to choose a journey that is within your capabilities. A Third Party Provider can refuse to rent a vehicle to any person who is in their opinion unfit to drive or does not meet eligibility requirements. In such circumstances we will have no further liability to you.

Refund and Cancellation Policy

We are committed to providing a quality service and aim for complete customer satisfaction. In the event of cancellation, any refunds, credits or cancellation charges that apply are detailed in the terms and conditions of the Third Party Provider of your selected vehicle. In the event you are unsatisfied with our booking service, please contact us within 48 hours of placing your booking or request and we will work to resolve any issues and determine if compensation is due. In the event you have completed your rental and are unhappy with your vehicle, we are happy to assist you in seeking compensation from the Third Party Provider.

Sometimes a booking may need to be cancelled because of circumstances beyond either party’s control. For example, a weather event, public health event (including epidemic / pandemic), medical emergencies, strike, terrorist act, governmental, regional or local authority restrictions (such as restrictions on movement due to the COVID-19 pandemic) or a change in law). If this occurs, your entitlement to a credit or refund will be as provided in your Third Party Provider’s terms and conditions.

You agree that you will raise and resolve any dispute over refunds or cancellations in respect of your booking (whether initiated by you, the Third Party Provider or by circumstances beyond the reasonable control of either party, including as a result of government travel restrictions, the COVID 19 pandemic or the insolvency of your Third Party Provider) directly with the Third Party Provider. Once you have made payment for your booking, you must not seek to reverse or cancel such payment through your card issuer or its agents without our prior consent.

We shall only be liable to provide a refund to you (whether that cancellation is initiated by you, the Third Party Provider or due to circumstances beyond the reasonable control of either party, including as a result of government travel restrictions, the COVID 19 pandemic or the insolvency of your Third Party Provider) to the extent that we actually receive a refund from the relevant Third Party Provider. Where refunds are due to you from a Third Party Provider, we will provide reasonable assistance to you in claiming such funds from that Third Party Provider. In that situation, you authorise us to seek such refunds from the travel provider directly and on your behalf.

Where a refund is applicable, the turnaround time from the date of your request for refund to the date you are provided with your refund may take up to 12 weeks. This is beyond our control.

We are not responsible (including in negligence) to you for any failure or delay on the part of any Third Party Provider in providing travel products to you where the booking has been properly processed.

Tasmania Campers AU Rental Terms for travel between 01-May-2012 and 31-Jan-2025

Important Information About Your Rentals

On arrival, you will be required to sign a rental agreement with the operators of Tasmania Campers. Here is a summary of the terms and conditions:

Definitions
The following definitions apply for the Terms and Conditions for Tasmania Campers.

• The Supplier means the operator of Tasmania Campers.
• The Client is also referred to as the hirer (s) or renter (s).

SPECIAL PAYMENT TERMS:
Full balance of payment (including the deposit) will be collected at the time of confirmation if you have elected to process your booking in a currency different to AUD.

Payments
If the balance is not received 38 days prior, Tasmania Campers reserves the right to treat the booking as cancelled.

Cancellations
Once a booking has been confirmed the booking is considered live and is subject to the cancellation policy.
Deposit paid is non-refundable.

Bookings submitted after 7th May 2020:
22 - 30 days prior to pick up: 20% of total reservation cost
12 - 21 days prior to pick up: 40% of total reservation cost
3 - 11 days prior to pick up: 75% of total reservation cost
No show or 2 days prior to pick up 100% of total reservation cost.

For customers affected by travel restrictions/are infected with covid 19 and booking was submitted from 9th June 2020:
COVID-19: In the event that travel is affected because of a pandemic then the following will occur:

1. Any booking cancelled up to 72 hours prior to pickup will be subject to a cancellation fee of $100.00 which will partially cover our costs. The balance of the hire amount can be held for a future booking occurring within 18 months from opening of borders or refunded at any time. This will allow hirers the option to preserve the value of their money against adverse exchange rate fluctuations.
2. In order to qualify for this exception, the hirer will need to provide medical proof that the hirer is unable to travel because of infection or that they are not permitted to travel because of Border restrictions.

No refunds for cancellations made after the travel or travel date has commenced. There are no refunds for early returns or cancellations after pick up.

All Inclusive Hire Charges
All hire charges include Australian Goods and Services Tax (GST) and daily insurance and 2% Local State Tax. You have unlimited mileage. Freshly laundered linen(not included in Bush Camper), all cooking equipment, crockery and cutlery is supplied. There is a charge for a colour TV,barbeque, picnic set, snow chains, cell phone, child restraint and bike rack. The hirer and other authorised drivers must be 21 years of age or over and produce a valid full drivers licence. Special conditions apply to drivers aged 18 to 20 years. Australia recognises drivers licences issued by your own country, as well as International drivers licenses. If you are a member of an Automobile Association bring your membership card with you and gain additional privileges and information on travel throughout Tasmania.

A 24 hour freecall helpline is there should you require on-road assistance.

Maintenance And Repairs
You are authorised to effect minor repairs up to $100.00. This will be refunded upon presentation of a GST invoice. If major repairs are needed, protect yourself by getting us to authorise it first. Problems encountered with the vehicle or equipment must be reported to Backpacker Sleepervans or Tasmania Campers as soon as practicable. This gives Backpacker Sleepervans or Tasmania Campers the opportunity to rectify the problem within the rental period. Failure to do so will compromise any claim that may eventuate after the hire is finished. In all cases the responsibility of Backpacker Sleepervans or Tasmania Campers is limited to refunding for the time that the vehicle was actually in repair. No alternative accommodation or food items will be paid for during down time. Malfunction of items such as but not limited to Radio/Cassette/CD players, Stove, Cooler box, Water pump, are not considered mechanical breakdowns and downtime will not be paid for these items. Retrospective claims will not be accepted.

Insurance

The vehicle is fully insured in case of accident damage or loss of contents (excluding personal belongings). The excess/deductible covers the cost of damage to third party property or to the rented vehicle, including single vehicle accident, windscreen and tyre damage overhead and underbody damage, towing and recovery costs, theft, fire, break in or vandalism. This also includes the cost of the daily rental rate for the period the vehicle is off fleet for accident repairs. The Liability applies in respect of each claim, not per rental. In addition to the Liability, and where our Bond Waiver has been purchased, an administration fee of $150 will be charged per claim. Otherwise, the fee is $450.00 per claim.

Bond

When you collect your vehicle we take an impression of your credit card as the bond for your excess/deductible. This is the insurance excess for any single accident which may occur during your holiday. The impression of your credit card covers your accident-damage bond liability plus any extra costs such as fuel fill-up, emptying of the toilet at the end of hire, or any traffic infringements, losses or breakages. A credit card imprint must be on all rental agreements and must be the credit card of the main hirer unless prior arrangements have been made. We do not deduct the bond from the credit card, but merely hold the authority to deduct it in the unfortunate event of an accident. Where a credit card is not available, a cash bond will be held by Tasmania Campers for 21 Days following hire.

Please Note: For customers who are using debit cards for the security deposit, due to the limitations within terms of use for debit cards these are treated as cash and the full excess will be debited unless the bond waiver is purchased and then a signed imprint will be taken.

Tasmania Campers (Trailfinder Campers and 4WD Bushcampers) - There is an excess of AU$3,800 included within our standard rates.  (AU$4,800 for drivers aged under 25 years)

Devil Campers/Sleepervans - There is an excess of AU$2,800 included within our standard rates.   (AU$3,800 for drivers aged under 25 years)

Optional Coverages

In addition to the insurance cover set out above, the hirer may chose Bond Waiver Insurance (BWI) options by so indicating on the Rental Document.  The amount of that excess and the daily rate payable in respect of BWI is dependent upon the age of the hirer and the type of vehicle hired.

Bond waiver/excess reduction Insurance

The bond can be reduced by purchasing one of the following Reduction Options:

Reduction Option 1:

Tasmania Campers - This option can be purchased by paying $28 ($33.00 per day for drivers under 25 years) per day reduces excess to $1,200.00 and only a credit card imprint is required.

Devil Campers/Sleepervans - This option can be purchased by paying $20 ($25.00 per day for drivers under 25 years) per day reduces excess to $850.00 and only a credit card imprint is required.

Reduction Option 2:

Tasmania Campers - This option can be purchased by paying $38 ($43.00 per day for drivers under 25 years) per day reduces excess to $0.00 and only a credit card imprint is required.

Devil Campers/Sleepervans - This option can be purchased by paying $29 ($34.00 per day for drivers under 25 years) per day reduces excess to $0.00 and only a credit card imprint is required.

Reduction Option 2 cover includes the following extras:

• Free hire of the following accessories which are GPS, Baby seat and/or child booster seat, Outside BBQ, Picnic Table and Chairs (one chair for each person travelling)
• Zero excess (Subject to exclusions below)
• One windscreen, multiple windscreen chips and two tyres will be covered for accidental damage
• Free airport pick up and drop off
• Damages admin fee

A Manual imprint of Credit Card will be collected at the time of entering into the Rental Contract.

Please note that Excess Reduction is completely optional and can be decided upon collection of your vehicle. This additional insurance only covers you for one incident where after your standard excess applies. You can apply to purchase this cover for the remaining days of your hire.

Exclusions To The Excess Reduction

Personal belongings: We recommend the hirer does not leave valuables in the vehicle and that they take out personal insurance.

With All Vehicles Full Cost of Liability Applies if:
Any water related damage, which includes but is not limited to:
a) Any vehicle submersion.
b) Creek or river crossing.
c) Driving through low plain flooded areas.
d) Beach driving.

The terms of the rental agreement are breached. The hirer will be responsible for the total cost of any damage.

• This will also include any damage caused by wilful misconduct (e.g. sitting or standing on the bonnet or roof of the vehicle) and driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs.
• The incorrect use of fuel (fuel being diesel or petrol). The hirer will be responsible for any associated cost.
• The cost to retrieve or recover a vehicle which has become bogged.
• The cost to replace keys, which have become lost, or retrieval of keys, which have been locked in a vehicle.
• Overhead and underbody damage to the vehicle (Reduction Option 1 only)
• Any costs associated with breakdown or accident on unsealed roads.
• Driving on restricted roads.
• Damage is caused to the vehicle by the use of snow chains
• Damage is caused due to fuel being placed in the water tank
• Damage to mechanical parts or the interior of the vehicle due to misuse or negligence.
• Damage overuse or overheating of the brakes and riding the clutch

If the terms of the Rental Agreement are breached the hirer will be responsible for the total cost of any damage.

Credit Cards
We only accept Visa or MasterCard. These cards will incur an additional 2% surcharge on any transaction.

Hire Period
Minimum is 5 days. Collect from 8 am onwards on your first day of hire and return no later than 5 pm on the last day. Late pickups are available on request. An after hours fee will apply. Days of hire are calculated on the number of actual calendar days you have the Tasmania Camper. Vehicles are restricted to Tasmania. One way hires of duration less than 10 days may incur a one way charge.

Accidents And Breakdowns
The liability of Backpacker Sleepervans or Tasmania Campers extends to either replacing your vehicle with a similar one, or refunding your hire charge for any days you lose the total use of the vehicle.

Pets Or Livestock Are Not Permitted In Any Tasmania Campers.

What You Need To Know - Your Conditions Of Hire. Read this carefully.

Prices may be subject to change due to factors beyond the control of Tasmania Campers. Any changes in price affecting a client between the time of booking and payment received will be advised immediately. The company takes no responsibility for any detention, delay, loss, damage or injury that a hirer might experience no matter how it is caused or by whom. The companys rental agreement is the sole contract for hiring the vehicle, between the company and the hirer and passenger(s). No refunds are payable on accommodation, Backpacker Sleepervans or Tasmania Campers not being available, where a hirer or passenger amends, cancels or seeks to vary agreements after departure. These conditions cannot be varied or altered or waived by any employee, agent or representative of the company or by anyone providing services or facilities. The company cannot be bound by any representative or statement unless it is confirmed in writing by the companys directors or management. The company reserves the right to provide a comparably high standard vehicle where a booked vehicle becomes unavailable through servicing or reasons beyond their control. Disclaimer: all illustrations and text are representations only and slight variations may occur from time to time. Driving your Campervan in Tasmania. The speed limit on the open road is 110 kph (60 mph). 100 kph is the recommended limit for your Campervan. In built-up areas the limit is 50 kph (30 mph).

Driving Fines
If you are fined or penalised for breaching any traffic laws, you are liable for the fine and/or associated administration costs.

Travel insurance
We strongly recommend that clients ensure they take out the highest level of travel insurance. In many cases this will cover any losses incurred if you are forced to cancel your booking.

Fuel
All vehicles are supplied with a full tank of fuel at the start of hire, and must be returned with a full tank at the end of your hire. Any costs or damage arising from incorrect or contaminated fuel being added to the fuel tank shall be at the hirers expense.

Included in every campervan is a Travel Information Pack - this includes details on camping grounds, maps, Tasmania traffic rules, sightseeing brochures and general information.

Tasmania Campers runs a fleet of vehicles which is updated regularly and serviced to the highest standards.

Standard comprehensive cover is included in the daily rental rate; a standard excess of $5000.00 applies. Hirers may exercise the option for reducing their liability.

Insurance Exclusions:
All insurance will be void if any of the following “Exclusions” are breached:
• Damage caused where the terms of Rental Contract have been breached.
• Damage caused by negligence.
• Damage caused to the Vehicle in any way by part or total water submersion or salt water.
• Damage caused due to a single vehicle roll over.
• Damage caused to the Vehicle by the renter’s wilful conduct.
• Damage caused to the Vehicle when using the Vehicle in contravention of any legislation or regulation controlling vehicular traffic.
• Damage or loss caused to any personal belongings.
• Damage caused due to use of incorrect or contaminated fuel.
• Damage to the awning, overhead or underbody of the Vehicle.

Road Restrictions:
The vehicles can be driven on recognised unsealed roads but you will need permission from the depot manager to take the vehicles around Tasmania. This permission is weather dependant on the current weather for the area and will only be given at the time the hire starts. Please consult a good map provider for road names and details like the “Hema Map” company.


It is recommended that hirers take out travel insurance which specifically covers cancellation fees; most claims arise from either personnel or close-family illness before departure resulting in cancellation charges. Please consult your own car or home insurance company (ensuring the policy covers you for “recreational use off road 4wd hire” and not just normal car hire)

FAQs
Can we freedom camp?
Yes, so long as there are no clear signs saying otherwise, then it should be okay, however we do suggest you use commonsense and courtesy. Please remember to take any rubbish for proper disposal later.

Can I use my own Drivers License?
Yes, you can use your standard driver license or International driver’s license to drive any of our campervans or Motorhomes. The license you chose to use must be in English.

What hire days do I pay for?
You pay for the day your hire commences and every day following this, including the day you return your vehicle, regardless of the time of day.

What happens if my vehicle breaks down or needs minor repairs?
All Tasmania Campers come with Nationwide NRMA roadside service. We also supply a list of nationwide service centres and authorise you to spend up to AU$100.00 in emergency repairs so that you can deal with minor matters speedily or when convenient to you.

How do I get to Tasmania?
Via air or sea! Bass Strait is the 'sea-road' and the route is operated by two incredibly fast ships that offer an overnight service in both directions between Melbourne and Devonport seven days a week, year round, with additional services in peak periods.

If you prefer to travel by air then Qantaslink, Virgin, Jetstar and Regional Express operate frequent services to Tasmania. There are direct flights from Sydney and Melbourne to L Hobart, from Brisbane to Hobart, from Adelaide to Hobart, and from Melbourne Burnie and King Island.

Where is your depot?
Our depot is located on Kennedy Drive, just off the Tasman Highway to the Airport on the old Cambridge Road (only a few minutes from the airport terminal).

How big is Tasmania?
Tasmania is an island approximately the same size as West Virginia.

When is the best time to visit Tasmania?
Tasmania enjoys four distinctly different seasons so there is a climate to suit your preferences! Generally it is warmer on the coast and cooler inland. During summer (December - February) the average maximum temperature is 21 degrees Celsius (70F) and during winter (June - August) the average maximum temperature is 12 degrees Celsius. Spring and Autumn is also very pleasant with temperatures normally in the mid-teens.

I have heard about the Tasmanian Devil and would really like to see one of these exotic creatures. How can I arrange this?
It isn't always to see the secretive Tasmanian Devil, however specialist wildlife observation tours are available on the island.

How much is petrol in Tasmania?
Petrol stations are located throughout Tasmania and open 7 days a week. You should expect to pay a few cents more per litre compared to other Australian states.

What are the main centres in Tasmania?
Hobart is the capital city, however other main centres include Launceston, Burnie and Devonport.

What is the driving speed limit around Tasmania?
In built-up (residential) areas the speed limit is 50 km/h unless otherwise indicated. The maximum speed on the open roads is normally 100km/h. Watch out - there is speed camera's operating throughout Tasmania.

Do I have to wear a seat belt?
Seat belts must be worn in motor vehicles.

Are there many visitor information centres?
There are plenty of visitor information centres located throughout Tasmania, simply look out for the blue and yellow 'i' to guide you to the local information centre.

Are there many walking tracks and national parks in Tasmania?
The state has more than 2000km's of walking tracks and an impressive 18 national parks.

Are there any Holiday Parks in Tasmania?

The following terms relate to the booking service provided to you by Motorhome Republic. The booking service includes the Motorhome Republic site, the software associated with the site and the facility to enter into transactions with certain parties whose content appears on the site. You agree to these terms with us in respect of the booking service, in addition to the terms of your rental above which apply directly between you and your chosen third party travel provider (“Third Party Provider”).

Information disclaimer

The rates on this website are often heavily discounted. This is due to our negotiated rates and bulk buying power. On very rare occasions, a rate may be displayed incorrectly due to our, or a Third Party Provider’s error. In such a case, if you book with us at a quoted rate that is incorrect, we will notify you of any price change and give you the option to proceed or cancel. Liability

We are not responsible or liable to you for (i) the acts or omissions of the Third Party Provider in respect of your booking or in the course of delivering the rental service to you; or (ii) any disputes in respect of your booking with that Third Party Provider or that service, except in each case to the extent that responsibility for those matters may be imposed on us by applicable law. While we will make reasonable efforts to ensure we are representing only reputable Third Party Providers, we make no warranty about the fitness suitability of any Third Party Provider product or service and will not accept responsibility for the quality fitness of any vehicle. If you encounter issues with the vehicle whilst on hire, you MUST report these issues directly to the relevant Third Party Provider at the earliest possible time. This will allow the Third Party Provider to remedy any issues and minimise any inconvenience to you. If you fail to report any vehicle issues during your rental, it is likely that compensation will not be offered. We welcome feedback from our customers on their experience with our Third Party Providers. We may, at our discretion, provide you with reasonable assistance in resolving any dispute you may have with a Third Party Provider. Where we are liable to you terms and conditions, our total liability to you will be limited to (at our option) resupply of the booking service provided to you or the dollar amount of the deposit we received from you in relation to your booking. Again, we strongly recommend that you take out travel insurance. Your use of this website is governed by the laws of New Zealand and the jurisdiction of the New Zealand courts.

Booking information

To make a booking you must complete our booking form which is easy to follow and secured with the latest encryption technology. Once we receive your form, we will availability confirm your booking email you a confirmation voucher and invoice. The deposit required to secure your vehicle (as shown on the secure booking page) will only be processed on your credit card when your booking is confirmed. Please note that a 2% credit card or debit card surcharge will be added when your payment is processed. A booking is confirmed when you have been emailed a confirmation voucher and at this stage the deposit is processed on your card and becomes non-refundable and any cancellation fees stated in the Third Party Providers terms apply. Upon receipt of your confirmation, please check your details carefully and notify us immediately if there are any incorrect details, as it may not be possible to make changes at a later date. If you are booking via phone, please make sure you have read the terms and conditions of the vehicle you wish to rent first. Our reservations consultant will ask you if you have read the terms and agree to them before proceeding. The onus is always on the renter to ensure they make themselves fully aware of the terms displayed on our website.

Information disclosure

In booking on this website you acknowledge that we disclose your information to your selected Third Party Provider in order for them to provide the requested rental services to you.

Amendments

Please note that some Third Party Providers treat an amendment as a new booking and apply the rate current at the time the amendment is made to recalculate the entire booking amount (not just the days changed). If the rental period is increased, an additional deposit may be required. If the rental period is shortened which results in a reduction of the rental charges, the deposit amount will remain unchanged, and the difference between the original and revised deposit is forfeited (it cannot be used towards remaining rental charges). To request a change to a confirmed booking, please use the alterations request link on your confirmation. Any alterations are subject to availability and the approval of the Third Party Provider. In addition to the alteration policy of the Third Party Provider stated in their terms, the following charges will apply in respect of our booking service relating to that amendment: Motorhome rental alterations (all charges stated in local currency): 25.00 The alteration fee will not be charged if your alteration request is not possible.

Vehicle Capacity and fitness to drive

Under no circumstances are you permitted to carry more passengers than the vehicle you rent is legally registered to carry, and if you do your insurance may be invalidated. The number of seatbelts (and passengers) is indicated next to each vehicle on this website. Luggage capacity where shown is an indication only and we will not be responsible should you be unable to fit your entire luggage into a vehicle. It is your responsibility to choose a journey that is within your capabilities. A Third Party Provider can refuse to rent a vehicle to any person who is in their opinion unfit to drive or does not meet eligibility requirements. In such circumstances we will have no further liability to you.

Refund and Cancellation Policy

We are committed to providing a quality service and aim for complete customer satisfaction. In the event of cancellation, any refunds, credits or cancellation charges that apply are detailed in the terms and conditions of the Third Party Provider of your selected vehicle. In the event you are unsatisfied with our booking service, please contact us within 48 hours of placing your booking or request and we will work to resolve any issues and determine if compensation is due. In the event you have completed your rental and are unhappy with your vehicle, we are happy to assist you in seeking compensation from the Third Party Provider.

Sometimes a booking may need to be cancelled because of circumstances beyond either party’s control. For example, a weather event, public health event (including epidemic / pandemic), medical emergencies, strike, terrorist act, governmental, regional or local authority restrictions (such as restrictions on movement due to the COVID-19 pandemic) or a change in law). If this occurs, your entitlement to a credit or refund will be as provided in your Third Party Provider’s terms and conditions.

You agree that you will raise and resolve any dispute over refunds or cancellations in respect of your booking (whether initiated by you, the Third Party Provider or by circumstances beyond the reasonable control of either party, including as a result of government travel restrictions, the COVID 19 pandemic or the insolvency of your Third Party Provider) directly with the Third Party Provider. Once you have made payment for your booking, you must not seek to reverse or cancel such payment through your card issuer or its agents without our prior consent.

We shall only be liable to provide a refund to you (whether that cancellation is initiated by you, the Third Party Provider or due to circumstances beyond the reasonable control of either party, including as a result of government travel restrictions, the COVID 19 pandemic or the insolvency of your Third Party Provider) to the extent that we actually receive a refund from the relevant Third Party Provider. Where refunds are due to you from a Third Party Provider, we will provide reasonable assistance to you in claiming such funds from that Third Party Provider. In that situation, you authorise us to seek such refunds from the travel provider directly and on your behalf.

Where a refund is applicable, the turnaround time from the date of your request for refund to the date you are provided with your refund may take up to 12 weeks. This is beyond our control.

We are not responsible (including in negligence) to you for any failure or delay on the part of any Third Party Provider in providing travel products to you where the booking has been properly processed.

In addition to the insurance cover set out above, the hirer may chose Bond Waiver Insurance (BWI) options by so indicating on the Rental Document.  The amount of that excess and the daily rate payable in respect of BWI is dependent upon the age of the hirer and the type of vehicle hired.

Bond waiver/excess reduction Insurance

The bond can be reduced by purchasing one of the following Reduction Options:

Reduction Option 1:

Tasmania Campers - This option can be purchased by paying $28 ($33.00 per day for drivers under 25 years) per day reduces excess to $1,200.00 and only a credit card imprint is required.

Devil Campers/Sleepervans - This option can be purchased by paying $20 ($25.00 per day for drivers under 25 years) per day reduces excess to $850.00 and only a credit card imprint is required.

Reduction Option 2:

Tasmania Campers - This option can be purchased by paying $38 ($43.00 per day for drivers under 25 years) per day reduces excess to $0.00 and only a credit card imprint is required.

Devil Campers/Sleepervans - This option can be purchased by paying $29 ($34.00 per day for drivers under 25 years) per day reduces excess to $0.00 and only a credit card imprint is required.

Reduction Option 2 cover includes the following extras:

• Free hire of the following accessories which are GPS, Baby seat and/or child booster seat, Outside BBQ, Picnic Table and Chairs (one chair for each person travelling)
• Zero excess (Subject to exclusions below)
• One windscreen, multiple windscreen chips and two tyres will be covered for accidental damage
• Free airport pick up and drop off
• Damages admin fee

A Manual imprint of Credit Card will be collected at the time of entering into the Rental Contract.

Please note that Excess Reduction is completely optional and can be decided upon collection of your vehicle. This additional insurance only covers you for one incident where after your standard excess applies. You can apply to purchase this cover for the remaining days of your hire.
